Flying-Cam was founded in 1988 by its current president Emmanuel Previnaire. In 15 years of business, and with bases in Santa monica and Belgium, the company offers eight remote-controlled helicopters, and reckons it can despatch them with crew to anywhere within 48-hours. Flying-Cam has worked in 45 countries - taking in the Macchu Picchu in Peru and -35C in Alaska. The company won a Technical Achievement Award in 1995, from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Science, for pioneering the Flying-Cam concept. Recent projects using the Flying-Cam Close Range Aerial Filming systems include Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban, A Beautiful Mind, Mission Impossible 2, Ocean`s Eleven, Die Another Day, Scooby Doo 2 and Van Helsing. The company`s know-how and technical abilities have also led to a collaboration with Nasa for a civil protection programme. The Flying-Cam units consist of a purpose-built, remote controlled-helicopter, with a gyro-stabilised head to which the filming equipment is fixed. Cameras on offer include 16, Super 16, 35, and Super 35, as well as DV. The remote head allows unlimited, simultaneous pan and roll movements on 360s, plus 180 on tilt. Typically, a 35mm magazine can contain 60m of film, enough for two minutes of shooting at 24fps. Zeiss and Cooke lenses, plus video assist are available in the package.
